Best Time To Update Books!

Keep a special day and time to run your numbers and keep your books weekly. The best time is when the phone will not ring, the ability to pull out all the information necessary, and no one else disturbing you once you get started.

We talked about the type of accounting package to use and I like QuickBooks. The best time to purchase it is when the new version comes out usually published in the fall. Most purchased versions will have at least a three year run on any troubleshooting and technical support as well as updates.

When we talk again, I will start to outlay some of the details you will need to start you on your way. Don't forget--contact me about any of your specific questions or better yet call or email me to give you a quote on books 2 keep.

Organization is Key

This is a beginning of series to help you, your family, organization, and/or business keep track of your books. Call or email me if you need more assistance than through this blog, but organization is the key to making sure you are tracking all costs.

First and foremost is the place you will file and store information. Until this becomes a paperless society or you already have all you files stored on your computer, a filing cabinet is needed. There is a neat way to track your costs and this can be done by how one spends the funds--rent, utilities, telephone, etc. Make up as many folders as you have expenses, mark them accordingly and let the FuN begin.

If you are starting today, let all your expenses start today. Like most of us we should be tracking all year long, so pull out the shoe boxes and start filing accordingly. QuickBooks is a great way to track all your costs for business, including home businesses by computer. Quickens is an easier tool to use for home use. Either way you need to get both revenue and expenses on a computer, it just makes it easier.
